Why I love the Met Con Games

On Saturday 28th June, we held the 10th edition of the MSC Met Con Games and what an incredible day it was, and what a journey it’s been over the years.

For me, the Met Con Games bring out the absolute best of MSC. My favourite thing about the Games is seeing members completely surpass what they thought they were capable of, and it’s amazing to see the confidence that this gives them moving forward.

The Met Con Games are a chance for members to compete against each other in a friendly and competitive environment, in a series of events all on the same day. This year, the events ranged from maximal strength work, with a deadlift and bench press three-rep max, to strongman medleys and aerobic conditioning competitions. All ability levels are always welcome, with teams balanced based on experience. There were members taking part who have been with us since day one back in 2015, and members who joined just a few weeks ago.

In the deadlift event, one of our members, Marium, lifted 85kg on the trap bar after joining just a few weeks ago – a huge PB for her, and it was amazing to see! The Games really do help you unleash your potential and realise what you’re capable of with the right support and an encouraging environment. This encouragement and support is another thing I love about the Met Con Games. No matter what team people are on, everyone gets behind everyone else and genuinely pushes them to do their absolute best. It’s an incredible community we have here at MSC.

The Games will no doubt continue long into the future, and we can’t wait to see returning athletes as well as new faces. It’s always an incredible day.

Shoutout on the day to some standout performances. For the girls, young Amy Kplomedo won the MVP in what was a sensational performance. At just 14 years old, Amy managed 155kg on the deadlift for 3 reps and 50kg on the bench press, as well as putting in an amazing effort on the strongman and aerobic events with a quality all-round showing. Other honourable mentions go to Sini and Allesia for standout performances.

For the men, the MVP went to Juan, who was as solid as a rock in all of the events, really standing out in the running. He also hit personal bests in his deadlift and bench press. Juan has been working really hard in the gym lately, especially on his strength work, so we’re delighted to see him do so well. Honourable mentions go to Will Stride and Joe Blacker, who were exceptional on the day. The orange team were the winners of the famous Met Con Games trophy – enjoy the spoils of battle! Well done to coach Rogers for leading his team to victory.

Also, a huge shoutout to everyone who came to the evening after-party. Over 60 people attended, and a great night was had.

Onto the next one then…

We go again!!
