Today marks the 10th anniversary of the opening of MSC!
What a journey it’s been! There’s been a hell of lot of ups and downs on a professional and personal level in that time (but luckily, many more ups than downs!!)
I’ve learned a hell of a lot in that time about business and about people, and I’m 100% confident that MSC and I can go into the next 10 years and reach another level yet!
The first few years was so much fun, but so brutal. 16 hour+ days without paying myself and lots of sacrifices were made, but it’s all been more than worth it to see where it’s at now. During those years, we had no systems and my business knowledge was pretty limited. However, there were so many incredible laughs and some of my favourite times were in those tough early days.
I genuinely believe we got through it with pure hard work and having the courage to make mistakes, learn from them, and try and get a little better each day. Luckily, I have had a great support network, including my mum, dad and sister, my wife Susana , Luke (who has been with me at MSC since day 1), and some absolutely incredible staff members. In those early days, we could barely afford to pay people, and most staff started on an unpaid internship (because we had no money lol), and the passion they showed for the badge will never be forgotten. Those people know who they are, thank you.
There’s been many setbacks along the way and business can be brutal sometimes. From legal issues with landlords before even opening, to closure during covid, to more set-backs of a more personal nature in recent years with the loss of loved ones. The most brutal part of having a business is that during these times, you cannot switch off and things still need to get done, people need paying, emails need answering and services still need providing.
Despite that, the joys of seeing people improve their lives on a daily basis and watching as the strength of our community grows day by day is an absolute privilege and I wouldn’t change a thing over these last 10 years. Thank you so much to every single member and every member of staff who has stepped foot in MSC and supported us.
We go again!
